Under Meelia's leadership, Tyco Healthcare has grown from $650 million to
$7.0 billion in revenue. He has led Tyco Healthcare through more than 30
successful acquisitions that have expanded product and technology
capabilities. Today, Tyco Healthcare includes such brands as Kendall, US
Surgical, Mallinckrodt and others. Meelia has expanded top line growth at
these businesses while boosting product development and improving operating
 efficiencies.
"Richard's expertise in developing sustainable healthcare businesses and
the infrastructure to support them will contribute significantly to Aspect's
growth objectives," said Nassib Chamoun, president and CEO of the Newton,
Mass.-based medical device manufacturer. "We feel fortunate to have someone
join the board with Richard's track record in successfully implementing
business strategies to develop a first-rate, large-scale healthcare business."
Commenting on his appointment, Meelia stated, "I have known Nassib for
more than 10 years and have watched Aspect grow from a five person start-up to
a well-established company recognized as the pioneer in the consciousness
monitoring market. Aspect has strong momentum to continue this leadership
position. I look forward to working with the board to help develop and expand
the company's market presence and enhance shareholder value."
Previously, Meelia served as group president of The Kendall Company, a
business that was acquired by Tyco in 1994, and as president of Infusaid,
Inc., a former division of Pfizer that marketed and manufactured implantable
infusion pumps and ports. Meelia received a B.A. from St. Anselm College in
1971 and an M.B.A. from Boston College in 1973. He is a member of the board
of directors for the Chernobyl Children Project, Inc. and Consolidated
 Products and Services, Inc.
Meelia is replacing Terrence G. McGuire who is resigning from the board
following four years of service. McGuire is a founder and general partner of
Polaris Venture Partners, Inc. and joined Aspect's board in 1997 after leading
a $12.9 million private equity financing for the company. Polaris also
participated in two subsequent financing rounds that brought an additional
$29.2 million in private equity capital to Aspect. "Terry has contributed
enormously to Aspect's success over the years and we are grateful to have had
his leadership on our board," said Chamoun. "It is extremely difficult to
replace a director of Terry's caliber and we are thrilled that Rich has agreed
to join Aspect to fill this role."
