ATK Receives $23 Million Contract to Produce Medium-Caliber Training Ammunition; Award is Third-Year Procurement Under $145 Million Multi-Year Contract

    MINNEAPOLIS, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ATK (NYSE:   ATK) (Alliant Techsystems)
 said it has received a $23 million contract to produce 25mm and 30mm training
 ammunition for use by U.S. armed forces.  The contract represents the
 third-year procurement under a five-year contract valued at $145 million
 awarded to ATK in 1999.
     The 25mm ammunition is used by the U.S. Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle
 and the U.S. Marine Corps' Light Armored Vehicle.  The 30mm ammunition is used
 by the Army's Apache helicopter.
     Under the contract, which was awarded by the U.S. Army Operations Support
 Command, Rock Island, Ill., ATK will manufacture approximately 1.7 million
 training rounds.  Deliveries are slated to begin in January 2002 and continue
 through February 2003.
     ATK Ammunition Systems Company, New Brighton, Minn., will manage the
 contract and produce projectile assemblies.  ATK Ammunition and Powder
 Company, Radford, Va., will produce the propellant for the rounds and perform
 final system integration work.  Both companies are operating units within
 ATK's Defense group.

 development, and high-volume production of medium-caliber ammunition is one of
