CULVER CITY, Calif., Aug. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- After winning a fiercely competitive Facebook fan poll held from August 1st through the 5th, Phoenix, Arizona has been chosen as the newest market in which the new Screen Gems film ATTACK THE BLOCK will open. Phoenix was pitted against Philadelphia, Detroit, Miami, Houston, San Diego, Denver, Portland, Cleveland, and Minneapolis in the poll, but got off to an early lead and never relinquished the top position.
ATTACK THE BLOCK opened in theaters on Friday, July 29th in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, and Toronto. On Friday, August 19th it will expand to 6 additional markets. Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas and Washington, D.C. had already been chosen for expansion, and the poll was run to determine which new market would join them.
Phoenix "Blockheads" are no doubt thrilled with the results as they now find themselves the most recently announced group to get the film Rolling Stone calls "Hot, fierce, funny, vicious and ready to bite!" to come to their city!
From the producers of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, ATTACK THE BLOCK follows a gang of tough inner-city kids who try to defend their turf against an invasion of savage alien creatures, turning a South London apartment complex into an extraterrestrial war zone.
ATTACK THE BLOCK stars Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost. It was written and directed by Joe Cornish, and produced by Nira Park and James Wilson. Executive producers were Matthew Justice, Tessa Ross, Jenny Borgars, Will Clarke, Olivier Courson and Edgar Wright. This film has been rated R by the MPAA for the following reasons: creature violence, drug content and pervasive language.
