AUI Contractors Lands Major Hurst Library Expansion

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- AUI Contractors of Fort Worth was recently selected to construct the new $3.7 million Hurst Library Expansion using a Construction-Manager-at-Risk method of project delivery.  With CM-at-Risk, the contractor is involved as a consultant during the design process, but then takes on the role of general contractor, with its inherent financial risk, during the construction process.

"The Hurst Library project is a much needed expansion to the existing facility," said Deputy City Manager Allan Heindel.  "AUI Contractors, serving as our CM-at-Risk, was selected because of their superior response to the RFP and because of their excellent work in a similar role on the Hurst Senior Activities Center."

The expanded library will include several new components.  A Large Program Space is envisioned that will have a capacity of 300 people, large enough to host MasterWorks Performances, summer reading programs, even private rentals.  Friends of the Library will have a Cafe/Bookstore where they will be able to receive donations and sell books and other merchandise.  Patrons will be able to lounge and enjoy refreshments from a concession stand or vending machines in this area. Young adults will benefit from a dedicated area that will contain computers, other media equipment, and a study/lounge space.  

A new Drive-Thru Window will provide patrons with a convenient pick-up and drop-off service.  The expanded library will also feature additional parking spaces and additional entry from Pipeline Road.

Bill Hidell of Hidell & Associates Architects said, "Our goal for the project was to create an open and inviting community space while relieving overcrowding in the library itself.  We worked to update the existing building, but made sure that the expansion maintained the architectural vocabulary of the original facility."
