Continued Partnership will Further Support Mental Health Care for the People of Central Texas
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Austin Recovery, the largest and most affordable not-for-profit drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas, will once again receive funding from the St. David's Foundation to support residential substance abuse services. The Foundation awarded Austin Recovery $299,500 to support residential substance abuse services through Austin Recovery's unique Recovery Step Down Project. In addition, the Foundation will provide a $50,000 matching grant intended to help Austin Recovery expand and diversify its funding base.
The Recovery Step Down Project funds medically indigent clients who have been stabilized in one of several local psychiatric hospitals allowing them to directly transfer to Austin Recovery for intensive residential substance abuse treatment. This is the fourth year Austin Recovery has received funding from the Foundation for the Recovery Step Down Project which served 72 clients last grant year. "The Foundation is pleased to continue supporting this program, which addresses a critical gap in our community's ability to help people with behavioral health disorders recover," says Kim McPherson, Healthy Minds Program Officer with the St. David's Foundation. "Our partnership with St. David's Foundation helps remove barriers to accessing care for those clients that have significant psychiatric needs and no means to address them," says Jonathan Ross, Austin Recovery's CEO. "The St. David's Foundation and Austin Recovery work together towards building a system of care that is cost effective and produces the best outcomes for some of Central Texas' most fragile residents."
St. David's Foundation invests in a healthy community through funding, hard work, and initiatives to better care for the underserved and uninsured. As a joint owner of St. David's HealthCare, the Foundation achieves its goals by investing the proceeds from the hospitals back in the Central Texas community. From its beginning in 1924, St. David's HealthCare has now grown to include seven hospitals, four surgery centers, and four urgent care clinics reaching from Georgetown to Kyle.
