Autodesk Delivers Powerful Network Modeling Capabilities to the Electric Utility Industry Via Autodesk GenMap

Adds Industry-Specific Mapping Capabilities to the Autodesk Powerline Solution

- The Industry's Only End-to-End AM/FM/GIS Solution for Electric Companies

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Autodesk, Inc.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire Interactive Press Release/ --
Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK) and its subsidiary Gentry Systems today announced
Autodesk(R) GenMap, a GIS-based application for modeling, maintaining, and
managing electric utility networks. Based on Gentry Systems' GenMap, which
Autodesk acquired as part of its purchase of Gentry Systems in January,
Autodesk GenMap extends the powerful mapping capabilities of AutoCAD Map(R)
and enterprise capabilities of the Autodesk(R) GIS Design Server to meet the
specific mapping and design needs of electric utility companies.
     (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000518/SFTH083LOGO )
Autodesk GenMap provides industry-specific functions, a library of
standard electrical symbols, "click and drop" functionality, and a single
point of entry for quickly and easily creating and editing connectivity
network maps. Since acquiring the software, Autodesk has added tighter
integration with Autodesk's GIS products, including Autodesk(R) Powerline, as
well as enhancing the user interface and productivity tools.
"The ability to easily create detailed maps of physical assets in real
time, whether off blue prints or data collected on-site, and save that
information in a single database represents a huge benefit for electric
utility companies in terms of accuracy and time and cost savings," said
Hal Gentry, director of the Electric Utility Group at Autodesk. "And now that
Autodesk GenMap is part of the Autodesk Powerline solution, electric companies
have an end-to-end solution that automates the most labor-intensive processes
while integrating with existing operational systems. This is a very compelling
proposition for managing an electric utility business more efficiently and,
 ultimately, more profitably."
"Glacier Electric Cooperative uses GenMap to consolidate numerous daily
tasks into one simple AM/FM/GIS solution. We've tremendously shortened
system-updating time, our response time has improved, our employees are more
informed, and our productivity has greatly increased. This system has had a
positive impact on the whole organization and continues to grow," said
Jasen Bronec, System Engineer at Glacier Electric.

     Autodesk Powerline
Autodesk Powerline builds upon and integrates proven tools with innovative
technologies, while providing immediate access to information that speeds up
response time and improves customer service and safety. Built on an
information framework that models distribution networks in terms of facility
characteristics, locations, connectivity, and routing from the substation to
the customer, Autodesk Powerline automates the most labor-intensive processes
while integrating with a company's operational systems. From planning to
engineering, from design and construction to operations, maintenance, and
billing, Autodesk Powerline is an end-to-end solution that equips enterprises
with the tools and data-sharing capability to power technical tasks and
 executive decisions.
Autodesk Powerline is comprised of Autodesk's premier applications
-- Autodesk GIS Design Server, AutoCAD Map, Autodesk MapGuide(R), and
Autodesk(R) OnSite -- with the industry-specific capabilities of Autodesk
GenMap and Autodesk(R) Utility Design software. For more information on
