Barrett Board to Evaluate Revised Shell Tender Offer

    DENVER, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Barrett Resources Corporation (NYSE:   BRR)
 today announced that its Board of Directors will meet to evaluate the revised
 Shell Oil Company tender offer which was announced today.  Barrett's Board
 will make a recommendation to Barrett shareholders with respect to the offer
 in due course.
     Noting that Barrett's Board would evaluate the offer in the context of
 Barrett's process to maximize shareholder value, which was announced on March
 8, 2001, Peter A. Dea, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Barrett, said,
