BOSTON, Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Beacon Health Options (Beacon), the nation's premier behavioral health management company, announced that it began managing behavioral health care and substance use disorder services for West Virginia Family Health (WVFH) Medicaid members in 53 counties throughout the Mountain State. Up until July 1, 2015, behavioral health services were carved out of managed care and delivered through a fee-for-service model.
"Beacon offers a combination of local clinical and operational expertise combined with national Medicaid experience," said West Virginia Family Health Executive Director Jason Landers. "Their leadership team understands that health care is delivered locally. It is at the local, community level where programs and services impact members and their families."
Beacon has hired local staff who are familiar with the unique needs of the residents of West Virginia as well as the behavioral health and substance use delivery systems.
"We are thrilled to partner with the West Virginia Family Health Plan. This launch was the result of months of planning, preparation and collaboration with the behavioral health provider community, the state and other managed care organizations in the region, to ensure that the transition from a fee-for-service to a managed care model is seamless to providers and members," said Maggie Tapp, Senior Vice President, National Client Partnerships – Mid-Atlantic Region. "It is gratifying to know that we can help to ensure that recovery-oriented mental health and substance use disorder care is accessible in the communities where WVFH members live. Ultimately, this will result in a strengthened safety net, improved quality and fiscal stewardship."
With this contract, Beacon has expanded its public sector footprint into West Virginia and now serves 13 million Medicaid members through state and health plan partners in 27 states and the District of Columbia.
