Bedford County Selects CompassLearning(TM) for Technology-Based Curriculum in Elementary Schools

Apr 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from CompassLearning Inc.

SAN DIEGO, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bedford County (Virginia) School
District has entered an agreement with CompassLearning(TM) to provide
technology-based curriculum and assessment software for use in its elementary
 schools.
According to Bobbi Johnson, Assistant Superintendent, "When we started our
search for curriculum and assessment software, we wanted to ensure both
curriculum continuity and flexibility district-wide. Each student, teacher,
classroom, and building has its unique approach and one of our goals was to
provide our staff with high quality product that best suited their unique
 requirements.  For example, some students need remediation in basic skills;
some are prepared for enrichment; and sometimes teachers want to integrate
technology-delivered instruction directly into their current lessons. The
CompassLearning(TM) program is research-based and designed to be effective
with a wide-range of learners. We piloted the system and learned that it
provides our teaching staff with an easy way to integrate supplementary
technology-based curriculum and assessment with their regular classroom
activities. Teachers and administrators were particularly impressed with the
flexible, teacher-friendly management system and the ability to assign,
 measure and report student results.
"The instruction and assessment components are aligned to the learning
requirements of the state Standards of Learning (SOL) assessment, helping
teachers and students in their preparation of the state-wide test."
Mark Hubble, President of CompassLearning(TM) said, "We are honored that
CompassLearning(TM) has been selected by the Bedford County School District as
a partner in providing the highest quality education to the children in the
county. We are committed to partnering with learners, educators, and parents
by offering digital-learning solutions leading to higher achievement levels,
on-going assessment, increased accountability, and alignment to standards."
