Billboard Salutes Latin Music Artists; Telemundo Network to Televise Annual Latin Awards Show

    MIAMI, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Hot Latin stars, sizzling music and
 celebrity presenters highlighted the Billboard Latin Music Awards Show at
 Miami Beach's Jackie Gleason Theater of Performing Arts in Miami Beach,
 Florida last night.  The Telemundo Network will televise the event in the U.S.
 as a 3-hour special on April 29th at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), in addition to being
 broadcast in the Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico (Televisa), Venezuela,
 Argentina, Guatemala, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Nicaragua, and throughout
 other Latin American countries on MGM Latin America, at a later date.

     The only show of its kind, the Billboard Latin Music Awards is the annual
 premier star-studded event, honoring the year's biggest and brightest stars.
 This year's show headlined performances by Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias,
 Thalia, Son By Four, Alejandro Fernandez, Ricardo Montaner, Alejandro Sanz,
 Lupillo Rivera, Banda El Recodo, Luis Fonsi, Paulina Rubio, Gilberto Santa
 Rosa, MDO, Grupo Limite, Melina Leon and OV7.
     Finalists for the awards ceremony are chosen based on their performances
 on Hot Latin Tracks and The Billboard Latin 50 charts, which comprise airplay
 and sales.  The measuring period for the nominee selection is January 30, 2000
 to January 29, 2001.

 percussionist Mongo Santamaria received the Hall of Fame Award for outstanding
