    PHOENIX, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, the
 state's only major not-for-profit and local health insurance company, today
 announced the beginning of a transition in its executive management team.
 These changes, effective June 6, 2001 after the annual meeting of the board,
 reflect the company's commitment to retaining its local and not-for-profit
 status.

     Robert B. Bulla, president and chief executive officer of the company,
 will become chairman of the board and chief executive officer.  He is
 presently the company's president and chief executive officer.  Richard L.
 Boals will become president and chief operating officer.  Boals is currently
 executive vice president and chief operating officer.
     Bulla, 61, joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona in 1983 in his current
 role.  He is the longest tenured CEO in the Blue Cross Blue Shield system.
 Boals, 53, joined the company in 1971 and has served in his current role since
 1986.

 Arizona Chairman of the Board Nestor R. Roos, DBA said.  "We are committed to
