Boris RED 2.0 Ships at NAB 2001

Improves Workflow with Integrated Titling, Effects and 3D Compositing

Includes Standalone RED Engine

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from Boris FX

LAS VEGAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- The first
company to introduce 2D and true 3D compositing into non-linear editing
applications, Boris FX today announced the shipment of Boris RED 2.0, a major
upgrade to their award-winning compositing and titling application. New
features in Boris RED 2.0 include: integrated vector animation tools,
including paint, rotoscoping, and spline-based text; motion tracking and image
stabilization; project window and render queue; and the new RED Engine for
standalone effects creation and rendering to QuickTime, AVI, and .swf
 (Macromedia Flash(TM)) formats.
RED 2.0 is featured in the Boris FX booth at NAB 2001, number 7251 in the
 Sands Convention Center.
"We're very excited about all of the new features in Boris RED 2.0, but
we're especially pleased with the unprecedented range of workflow options we
offer for effects creation," says Boris Yamnitsky, Boris FX founder and
president. "Until now, users have had to choose between the ease of creating
effects inside their video editor, or using an outside effects compositor to
get all the capabilities they needed. Both approaches have advantages and
disadvantages, but with Boris RED 2.0, users no longer have to choose."
"With the Boris RED Engine for standalone creation and rendering of
effects, and Boris RED 2.0 continuing our industry-leading effects
integration, users can create and finish 2D and 3D composites, titles and
more, wherever it suits them," continues Yamnitsky. "No other application
offers this range of options for creating both as an integrated and a
standalone application, for online and offline, cross-platform workflow."

Feature highlights in Boris RED 2.0 include:

Vector Paint -- Because RED 2.0's vector paint is applied as a separate
object rather than a filter, it offers exceptional animation control.
Stroke and Fill can be animated, and any path can have multiple strokes,
with styles such as bevel and glow, and animation styles such as jitter.
Supplied primitive shapes (square, circle, star, heart, etc.) can all be
easily edited and animated. Custom shapes and paths may also be created
with robust vector tools, or imported for enhanced effects.

Rotoscoping -- Users can take advantage of the same vector tools to draw
precise masks in the Composite window, animate shape, position and more,
with onion-skinning to simultaneously view multiple frames while
     constructing animations.

Expanded Title Animation -- With Text on Path, both the path shape and the
text position can be animated over time. Users can create paths with
RED's vector tools, or import paths from Adobe Illustrator. The Type On
feature allows one click type-on animation of progressively applied skew,
tumble, spin, rotate, scale, opacity, and position to a text page, alone
or in combination, so individual characters can easily
fly/spin/fade/zoom/shuffle on or off the screen. Vector Text provides
razor-sharp clarity at any scale. With one click inside RED 2.0, users
can convert text to outlines and edit animated text outlines with Bezier
     controls for morphing effects.

Enhanced 3D Compositing -- RED 2.0 allows users to intersect any 3D shape
(planes, spheres, extruded text, brushstrokes, etc.), with multiple
lights, using the most advanced 3D rendering of any desktop compositor.
Nearly any object in RED can be extruded (text, EPS files, paint objects,
etc.) with multiple perspective cameras. RED 2.0 features tools to design
and animate Natural Media procedural textures such as wood, stone, fabric,
etc., for use as backgrounds or surface maps. Extruded objects support
Reflection and Texture Mapping to simulate glass, metal and other
materials, which can also reflect other layers.

Audio Import and Playback -- Scratch audio track includes timeline
waveform display and level controls to enable easier reference and
synchronization to audio during effect animation design.

     Pricing and Availability
Boris RED 2.0 is available now through Boris FX resellers worldwide, with
an MSRP $1995.00 USD. Upgrades from previous version of RED are $295.
Registered owners of Boris FX or Boris Graffiti can upgrade to RED 2.0 for
$1095. Registered owners of both can upgrade for $995.
