Buonaiuto Joins AEP as Senior Vice President and Controller

    COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph M. Buonaiuto has joined
 American Electric Power (NYSE:   AEP) as senior vice president and controller,
 effective immediately. He will act in the capacity of chief accounting
 officer.
     Buonaiuto, 43, previously was a partner with the London office of Deloitte
 & Touche, an international professional services and accounting firm.
     "We're excited to have Joe as part of the senior management team," said
 Henry Fayne, executive vice president and chief financial officer of AEP.
 "Joe's broad experience with Deloitte & Touche will be particularly valuable
 as we implement our corporate separation plans and continue to grow our
 competitive wholesale business."
     Buonaiuto served in various positions at Deloitte & Touche beginning in
 1981. Since 1998 he had been based in London, where he led the U.S. assurance
 services group for Deloitte's European energy practice and was responsible for
 service areas ranging from audit to energy trading risk management and other
 transaction advisory services. He also established Deloitte's London U.S.
 Offering Services Group, which advises clients in the United Kingdom and
 continental Europe who are considering public capital financings in the United
 States.
     From 1988 to 1998, Buonaiuto served in a client service role for several
 of Deloitte's Fortune 500 global electric energy and independent power
 producer clients. Before that, he was based in the firm's national office
 energy practice group in Washington, D.C.
     Buonaiuto received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Brandeis
 University in Waltham, Mass., and a master's degree in business administration
 from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business in Ann Arbor.
