LAS VEGAS, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- RESULTS CONFERENCE -- Galton
Technologies, a Thomson Learning company, today became the first computer-
based test developer to receive accreditation from the Buros Institute for
Assessment Consultation & Outreach (BIACO), a nationally recognized
accrediting organization. Galton was granted the accreditation under a new
quality evaluation program, following a rigorous evaluation of their test
development practices. The accreditation provides Galton with the ability to
ensure valid, reliable and legally defensible tests for their clientele.
Galton is also currently working on a program that will allow their customers
to pass along the Buros credential and stamp of approval to their own
 customers.
The Buros name has long been associated with the independent evaluation of
tests with the goal of improving the evaluated tests. The Buros Institute has
been providing professional assistance, expertise, and information to users of
commercially published tests for more than 60 years, promoting appropriate
test selection, utilization, and practice. Galton Technologies is the leader
of computer-based assessment and certification services in the information
technology (IT) industry and recently announced intent to move beyond IT into
 other vertical markets.
"Galton should be commended for meeting strict quality standards," stated
James C. Impara, Ph.D., Buros Institute. "It is critically important for test
development organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability.
The Buros' accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment. This specific
accreditation is particularly significant, as it is the first we have granted
outside the paper-based testing arena, and validates that computer-based exams
can be safe, valid and legally defensible."
The Buros accreditation process includes a review of an applicant's
documentation and methodologies, as well as an on-site interview and
evaluation of documented test development procedures. Buros accreditation is
granted by their program evaluation team, all of whom are industry
accreditation experts with training and experience in testing and measurement
 methodologies.
"This is a significant milestone for Galton Technologies and for the
computer-based testing industry, as it provides Galton with the ability to
stand behind the tests we create-with the support and backing of a nationally
known accrediting body," said David Foster, president and co-founder of Galton
Technologies. "With this acknowledgment, our customers are ensured that our
testing approach and methods are sound and meet the meticulous standards that
the paper-based testing industry has supported for decades."
