Business is Digital: Preparing Students for Success in the Modern Workplace
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Digital Media Educators Conference, (http://ict-dm.net/dmec), brings together California Community College faculty and industry experts to discuss ways to prepare students, freelancers and business people with the digital media skills necessary to succeed in today's marketplace.
On June 11-12, over 220 community college faculty from California Community Colleges statewide will meet with professionals from some of today's most well known companies, including Adobe, Toshiba, Kaiser Permanente and The Walt Disney Company. The two-day event will be held at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA.
Conference tracks focus on career pathways for digital media occupations, entrepreneurship and jobs in which digital skills increase a worker's value and pay. Educators will discover how digital media is interwoven into "traditional" industries from general business to healthcare. They will learn why building a brand and engaging a community of loyal fans using social media platforms is particularly relevant in today's digital workplace.
Thursday Keynote Diane Domeyer, Executive Director of Robert Half's Creative Group, will discuss hiring trends and explain how students can prepare for a thriving but competitive digital media job market. Ben Bradley, Research Manager with Burning Glass, a noted labor market research firm, will keynote Friday with employer informed understanding of the digital skills gaps in today's students.
Industry experts and faculty panelists will speak on an eclectic mix of topics including Internet Identity Management, Digital Media Communication and Interface & Usability Design. Best practices for teaching digital media for business will also be shared.
Students will have a unique opportunity to address educators as well as a panel of recent community college graduates who have entered the entertainment industry who will lead a candid discussion about current curriculum. They will examine what works, what could use improvement and what skills an incoming worker needs.
This year's conference isn't all lecture, though. Participants can utilize onsite computer labs to become Adobe Certified Associates by taking certification exams in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Premiere at no cost.
The DMEC is the second annual conference sponsored and developed by the Doing What Matters, Information Communications Technology (ICT)-Digital Media Sector Team. Archival videos and presentations from this year and last will be available on the team website (http://ict-dm.net/dmec).
