CHICAGO, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Helping to save a baby's life can be as
easy as buying a toothbrush. Though a toothbrush isn't among the typical
items sold during fund-raisers, Butler GUM(R) oral care products, an official
sponsor of the March of Dimes(R) annual WalkAmerica(R) event, is selling
specially imprinted toothbrushes to benefit the March of Dimes Birth Defects
 Foundation.

Why toothbrushes? The partnership stems from research that found pregnant
women with severe periodontitis may have a seven-fold increased risk of
delivering a preterm, low birth weight baby(1).
"Butler GUM(R) proudly supports the March of Dimes and its mission to
invest in research and prevention initiatives to improve birth outcomes," said
Charles Dushman, director of U.S. oral care marketing at the John O. Butler
Company. "Why not sell something that everyone needs and uses?"
Imprinted with the March of Dimes logo, the Micro Tip(TM) Toothbrush sells
for $3. The toothbrushes are sold in conjunction with WalkAmerica, the March
of Dimes' biggest fund-raising event. Two-thirds of all proceeds from the
toothbrush sales will help fund March of Dimes research and community programs
to improve maternal and infant health.
The Butler GUM(R) brand will support its March of Dimes sponsorship
through multimarket advertising, an educational awareness campaign and a TV
public service announcement featuring Kathy Smith, fitness expert and March of
 Dimes celebrity spokesperson.
Made by the John O. Butler Company (a Sunstar company), the Butler GUM(R)
brand of oral care products is the second most recommended and used brand by
dental professionals. For more than 75 years, Butler GUM(R) has maintained a
steady commitment toward designing, producing and distributing advanced oral
care products to consumers and dental professionals worldwide. For more
