STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD, PALM DESERT, Calif., April 9 /PRNewswire/ --
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD) and
Computer Associates (NYSE: CA), the world's leading provider of eBusiness
management solutions, announced today that they are expanding their
partnership to deliver enhanced storage management solutions for Brocade-based
Storage Area Networks (SANs). The two companies have been working together to
enhance interoperability between Brocade SAN infrastructure and CA's open
storage management and data protection solutions. As a result, CA and Brocade
customers are now able to protect their business-critical data and better
manage the storage devices that contain this data.
Because security is such an important aspect of both enterprise and SAN
management, Brocade and CA are working together to ensure that their security
development efforts are integrated and complement each other. As SANs scale
and storage environments are used by multiple independent customers or
"tenants," strict security measures to preserve the SAN will be required. CA's
world-class eTrust(TM) security solutions will complement the Brocade Secure
Fabric OS(TM), also announced today by Brocade. Offered as an integrated part
of the Brocade Fabric Operating System (Brocade Fabric OS(TM)), which is the
intelligent software platform for Brocade-based SANs, Secure Fabric OS is the
industry's first comprehensive solution to enable strong security mechanisms
in a storage networking environment. Secure Fabric OS, which will be offered
in upcoming versions of the Brocade Fabric OS, significantly extends the
security features offered in current versions of Fabric OS. Secure Fabric OS
offers authentication methods to support policy-based SAN management and
secure access to the fabric at all access points, preventing unauthorized
access into the storage network. These access points include user access to
SAN management consoles, management console or application level access to the
SAN fabric, server access to the SAN fabric, and switch access to the fabric.
The Secure Fabric OS is a cornerstone of the Brocade Intelligent Fabric
Services Architecture, also announced today by Brocade. The architecture
defines a networking foundation to support the requirements of next-generation
enterprise storage applications, such as resource optimization through server
and storage consolidation; simplified management through storage
virtualization and centralized management; and high availability architectures
such as server clustering and data replication for disaster recovery.
"We are pleased to support the Brocade Intelligent Fabric Services
Architecture, which defines the requirements for enterprise class storage
networking, and to work with Brocade to deliver next generation SAN solutions
to benefit our mutual customers," said Phil Treide, vice president, storage
solutions, CA. "Through this integration, CA brings world class infrastructure
management technology to the SAN at the storage device, network, and security
levels. As SANs are deployed more widely across the enterprise landscape, it
becomes even more vital to provide the best data protection, storage and
security management options possible to our customers."
CA will use Brocade Fabric Access(TM), the API to Brocade Fabric OS to
provide enhanced SAN management capabilities for its data protection and
storage management software solutions, which help customers protect, monitor,
control, report, trend, and automate data storage in both distributed and
centralized environments across different protocols and topologies including
storage area networks. Through Fabric Access, CA gains entry to the value
added management capabilities and services of the Brocade Fabric OS. CA will
use this information to add value for its customers by delivering advanced
data protection and open storage management solutions.
"CA's storage management software solutions represent a new generation of
SAN management applications that will give our mutual customers advanced
protection and management of their enterprise data," said Jay Kidd, Brocade
vice president of Product Marketing. "The CA solutions will leverage the rich
features of the Brocade Fabric OS to expand the SAN management options
available to Brocade customers. We look forward to working with CA as a Fabric
Access Partner, enabling our customers to take full advantage of the advanced
fabric services and features of the Brocade Intelligent Fabric Services
 Architecture."
