California Table Grape Farmers Honor Cookbook

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from California Table Grape Commission

FRESNO, Calif., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A cookbook from the Pacific
Northwest was the winner in an international cookbook contest sponsored by
 California's fresh grape farmers.
The Herbfarm Cookbook by Jerry Traunfeld (Simon & Schuster, $40) was the
winner of the California Table Grape Award for the best cookbook by a chef or
restaurant in the prestigious International Association of Culinary
Professionals cookbook competition. This was the second year that
California's table grape farmers sponsored the award.
"We are pleased to once again honor the work of one of this country's best
chefs," said Jim Howard, communications director for the California Table
Grape Commission. "The Herbfarm is well known as one of America's finest
restaurants and with this book Jerry Traunfeld shares not just his recipes,
 but his passion for food."
More than 300 cookbooks from around the world were entered in the
competition. 33 food and beverage writers judged the books and awards were
given in 11 separate categories. The awards were presented at a ceremony on
 April 28 in Minneapolis, MN.
"Fresh grapes are increasingly enjoyed as more than just a great natural
snack," said Howard. "Since the rediscovery of grapes as an ingredient was
lead by the chefs and restaurants in this country, it just makes sense for
California's grape farmers to sponsor the premier award for the cookbooks by
 chefs and restaurants."
The California Table Grape Commission, which sponsored the Chefs and
Restaurants award, is the promotional arm of the state's table grape industry
and its more than 600 farmers.
