EDISON, N.J., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that will expand the
Web-based capabilities of its unified communications service offering, Call
Sciences announced it has acquired Vocal Link, a communications services
provider specializing in e-mail hosting and voice-activated unified messaging.
Through Vocal Link, Call Sciences acquires one of the unified
communications industry's most versatile e-mail hosting platforms. When
combined with its flagship service, Personal Assistant(R), Call Sciences will
offer customers the industry's most robust set of integrated voice and data
features in a unified communications services package.
"The combination of Call Sciences and Vocal Link will result in the first
true unified communications powerhouse," said Mike McCoy, CEO of Call
Sciences. "No other service provider has the breadth of unified
communications features, or the depth of resources to deliver them to the
marketplace. As a result, our combined strength gives us the ability to
provide users with a real cure for 'communications chaos' -- that's the
frustration of keeping track of too many phone numbers and communications
 gadgets."
Unified communication services provide the seamless act of uniting all
messages and communication devices through a single portal to simplify and
 streamline people's lives.
The purchase will give Call Sciences a host of dynamic, unified
communication services such as enhanced speech recognition, synchronization
tools, e-mail hosting, security tools, portal services, and other unified
messaging technologies. As part of the acquisition, Call Sciences will gain a
technical development center in Glencoe, Ill. and a sales office in Calabasas,
 Calif.
In addition to enhanced offerings, the acquisition further strengthens
Call Sciences' ability to provide the market with a communication application
solutions provider (CASP) model. As a CASP, Call Sciences delivers solutions
to corporate enterprises and telecommunications services providers. The
combined implementation resources will enable Call Sciences to deploy these
solutions with the latest technology faster than before and with little
 up-front cost to customers.
"Vocal Link's strengths in Web and data integration are strong additions
to Call Sciences' telephony-focused solutions," said Megan Gurley, an analyst
with The Yankee Group. "The combined services and experience in delivering
these applications through a hosted model have the ability to launch Call
Sciences to a higher level of technology and service," Gurley added.
Paul G. Black, Vocal Link's CEO, will become Call Sciences' Senior Vice
President of Global Sales and Business Development, and many of the Vocal Link
employees will be joining the company as well.
"We are very excited about combining the strengths of the Vocal Link and
Call Sciences teams. Call Sciences' standards-based technology, telephony
heritage and international presence are a natural complement to Vocal Link,"
said Black. "Additionally, we share Call Sciences' vision of providing a new
generation of technology centered on helping users achieve complete freedom
and control over the way they handle messages," he said.
