Calpine Names Lisa M. Bodensteiner Senior Vice President

 (NYSE:   CPN), the nation's leading independent power company, today announced
 that Lisa M. Bodensteiner has been promoted to Senior Vice President.
 Bodensteiner also serves as Calpine's General Counsel.

 expanding legal staff at the corporate office and the regional offices in
 Boston, Houston and Pleasanton, California.
     Bodensteiner will continue to manage all corporate legal and insurance
 affairs, as well as function as Assistant Secretary for Calpine Corporation.
     Before joining Calpine, Bodensteiner was an associate with Thelen, Reid &
 Priest (formerly Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges), where she gained her
 transaction and power industry experience.  As outside counsel, Bodensteiner
 was closely involved in several of Calpine's acquisitions.
     Bodensteiner holds a B.S. in business administration and accounting from
 the University of Nevada and a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.
