Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Awards EUR 20 million Global ATM Contract to KPNQwest

Approx EUR 20 Million Three-Year Contract 27 Sites-Countries Over 3 Continents

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from KPNQwest

HOOFDDORP, Netherlands, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- In a major commitment to
extend its international corporate bandwidth, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGEY),
one of the largest management and IT consulting firms in the world, has
contracted KPNQwest (Nasdaq: KQIP), the leading pan-European data
communications company, to provide a part of the company's global high-speed
ATM network, covering 27 out of a total of 40 sites. As well as ATM
connections covering Europe, the USA, Canada and Mexico, KPNQwest will provide
domestic network locations into the local country access network for a
 majority of the sites.
To ensure maximum leverage of the network for crucial company data,
KPNQwest will also provide connectivity to data centres in four locations
across the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young network. In combination with the network
these will provide the platform for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's
mission-critical applications such as the company's corporate Intranet,
Extranet, sales software and financial applications.
The network roll-out puts Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in an excellent
position to harmonise its network with one bill, one service level, and one
reporting point. Cap Gemini Ernst & Young can extend the network into domestic
access as and when required, extending international SLAs (service level
agreements) to the domestic level. The ATM network also provides a potential
platform for new integrated pan-organisational services such as the KPNQwest
Traveller mobile access service and KPNQwest's fully-featured IPVPN, which
recently extended its features with a highly cost-effective IP Voice service.
"This contract will enhance the International Network Service of Cap
Gemini Ernst & Young and enables us to roll out the global aspects of the
Group at a higher speed," said Andre de Graaf, Group CIO, CGEY.
"Cap Gemini Ernst & Young is taking advantage of KPNQwest's next
generation global network infrastructure and data services - one of a growing
number of far-sighted customers looking for a superior, high quality,
networking solution," said Rhett Williams, Chief Marketing Officer, KPNQwest.
"We can leverage our EuroRings network, managed services and CyberCentre
hosting capabilities and seamless linkage to Qwest's North American products
in a tailored solution to provide massive bandwidth and storage potential for
large scale data users, with seamless global connectivity solutions."
