Captain Cupcake Sails Again!

Popular 1970's Hostess Cup Cake Icon Stages Triumphant Return, Sailing Into

Long Beach Harbor with a Treasure Trove of Treats

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rumor had it that he'd been
lost at sea ... shipwrecked on a "dessert" island ... or possibly even eaten
by sharks (who no doubt would've loved the treat). But the Captain lives!

Captain Cupcake, the storied 1970's mascot for Hostess Cup Cakes, returns
to a cheering throng of ravenous cupcake fans -- many bore a striking
resemblance to children of an earlier generation -- with a triumphant arrival
 in Long Beach.
The Captain was welcomed by still another Hostess legend, none other than
Twinkie the Kid. Captain Cupcake's return was marked by actually sailing into
Long Beach Harbor following a nearly-30 year absence.
The event was held to recognize Captain Cupcake's return to the Hostess
Cup Cake packaging in conjunction with an online contest asking web site
visitors to guess when and where Captain Cupcake would return. Appropriately,
winners of the contest won a Caribbean cruise.
Interstate Bakeries Corporation (NYSE: IBC) , through its operating
subsidiary, Interstate Brands Corporation, is the nation's largest wholesale
baking company with 67 bread and cake bakeries in strategic markets from
