Cash Money Records Debuts Male Vocal Group OFFICIAL; Quintet to be The First R&B Signing to the Highly Successful Label

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from Cash Money Records

NEW YORK, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Cash Money Records has signed
Philadelphia-based male vocal group OFFICIAL to a recording contract. The
quintet is the first R&B act signed to the New Orleans-based label, which is
best know for its breakout success with multi-platinum hip-hop acts Juvenile,
Lil Wayne, Big Tymers and The Hot Boys. Plans call for OFFICIAL to release its
debut offering, Telling Our Story, sometime this year.
The group, which consists of members Ralph Boykins, Edward Pack, Kairi
Guinn, Solomon Boyd and Damon Miller, represents a departure from Cash Money's
primarily hardcore, dirty south genre rap roster. "We weren't specifically
looking for a male R&B group when we decided to sign OFFICIAL," says Cash
Money CEO Ronald Williams, who met the group by chance while in New York City
on business. "They recognized me and slipped me a demo. I liked what I heard."
The tracks on OFFICIAL's forthcoming disc take a look at modern-day love
and all its complexities. The group members wrote all of the songs, and the
tracks range from melodic ballads to hip-hop influenced R&B grooves. Group
member Damon Miller produced most of the 19-track album. The disc's lead track
will be the up tempo, danceable groove entitled "Anything You Want," and will
feature multi-platinum rapper Lil Wayne. Other standout cuts include the up
tempo rant "Why," the compelling "If I Would Die," and the funky "Freak,"
which features Christina, the first female rapper slated for release on Cash
 Money Records.
