COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Each year, HIMSS honors its members for their contributions to the Society, their organizations and to health information technology. On February 21st, 2017 in Orlando, the Central & Southern Ohio HIMSS Chapter received the FY2016 HIMSS Chapter of the Year award as the top Medium-sized chapter. Chapter of the Year nominees receive scores based on their chapter engagement, service to members, communication, recruitment, education/professional development, leadership training, advocacy and innovation.
There are 55 chapters of HIMSS throughout North America, Puerto Rico, Canada and India. The HIMSS Board of Directors approved the selection of the award winners.
Scott Mash, President of the Chapter during FY2016 accepted the award on behalf of the Board. Current Chapter President, Jeff Haas echoed the sentiment that well-balanced participation between healthcare solution vendors coupled, with provider organization engagement had been the secret sauce that has enabled the growth and quality of the programs at the events.
Over the last decade, the Central & Southern Ohio HIMSS Chapter has grown from an average of 50 attendees to their conferences to close to 300 attendees at their programs. This is due in large part to the dedication of its volunteer board and the commitment by the community for better quality presentations and engagement in their chapter activities. The conferences and Ohio Healthcare IT (Advocacy) Day have been major contributors to their growth and membership engagement.
Congratulations also go to CSOHIMSS long time Board Member, Rick Moore who was named the recipient of the FY2016 HIMSS Chapter Advocate of the Year! Thanks to his advocacy efforts and leadership, the Central & Southern Ohio Chapter has been at the forefront of leading change in health IT in Ohio. His efforts to establish productive relationships with state elected officials have been extremely fruitful. Rick's many achievements include his work to establish the reoccurring Ohio Health IT (OHIT) Day, including the Governor's office acknowledging through a proclamation for several past years, and for creating a Chapter-level award program to recognize Ohio state legislators who have championed health IT.
"HIMSS congratulates the Central and Southern Ohio HIMSS chapter members on their hard work and dedication to HIMSS vision of better heath through information technology," said Carla Smith, MA, FHIMSS, CNM, executive vice president, HIMSS North America. "The dedication of the members of this chapter help to make the HIMSS Chapter Program a success."
The CSOHIMSS upcoming 10th Annual Ohio Healthcare Information Technology Day is on April 5th at the Ohio Statehouse and the Spring Conference "The Zen of Healthcare Disruption" on May 12th is at the Conference Center at OCLC.
