Miranda Technologies, Encoda, SignaSys and Pinnacle Systems Develop Models for

Centralization and Test Interoperability

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from Pinnacle Systems, Inc.

LAS VEGAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Miranda
Technologies, Encoda Systems, Inc., SignaSys, Inc. and
Pinnacle Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCLE) today announced that the four companies
have teamed up under the name Centralized Broadcasting Solutions to address
challenges faced by station groups and networks in implementing centralized
broadcasting models. The goal of the Centralized Broadcasting Solutions
initiative is to collaborate, adapt each individual system element to the
others, perform interoperability testing and create solution templates for a
variety of architectures. While the arrangement is non-exclusionary and the
companies will continue to work with other manufactures, the overall aim is to
provide well-adapted solutions that answer the complex challenges of
 centralized broadcasting.

The trend toward centralized operations has created new technical,
operational, and business issues that go beyond the traditional aspects of
setting up and running a television operation. From an equipment standpoint,
no single vendor can provide a system that solves every broadcasting need. At
the same time, implementing a centralized operation by piecing together
equipment from multiple vendors presents issues of interoperability. Realizing
the challenge faced by station groups and networks alike, Miranda, Encoda,
SignaSys, and Pinnacle Systems have been working together to better understand
centralized broadcasting models and to develop highly interoperable solutions.
The group will hold a joint press conference at NAB 2001 on Tuesday,
April 24 at 4:00 pm, in the Las Vegas Convention Center at Miranda's Booth
L8632. There will also be a joint demonstration of a complete Centralized
Broadcasting Solution during NAB at the Pinnacle Systems Booth L11327. Each
of the other members will be displaying parts of the solution on their own
individual booths: Miranda (L8632), Encoda (L12220), and SignaSys (E2900).
The initiative brings together leading equipment and service providers
whose specialties encompass the major components required for centralized
operations. The companies offer a wide range of expertise and the broad
perspective necessary to address further developments of centralized broadcast
models. The contribution of each player is as follows:

-- Encoda provides multi-channel automation with traffic and asset
 management.
-- Pinnacle Systems provides a complete solution for networked video
 servers and content distribution.
     -- Miranda's contribution includes multi-image monitoring, a wide variety
of routing and interfacing equipment as well as on-air presentation switching
 and branding.
-- SignaSys is a system integrator with broad experience in centralized
broadcasting and multi-channel broadcasting system deployment. SignaSys
provides application consultation and case analysis as well as system design
 and integration.

Centralized broadcasting is simple in concept-multiple stations over a
given geographic region are linked, and depending on the degree of
centralization, either run from a single facility with centralized playout or,
using a more distributed approach, incorporate store-and-forward content
distribution and remote automation. Centralized broadcasting offers cost
savings associated with consolidation while also facilitating opportunities
 for collaboration between multiple sites.
"Centralized broadcasting is emerging as a key industry trend resulting
from the increase in group station ownership and the economic demands placed
on broadcasters by the transition to digital television," commented Al
Kovalick, CTO for the Broadcast Solutions Group of Pinnacle Systems, "Networks
and broadcast groups are exploring various models for centralization in order
to streamline operations and save costs. By working together with the other
members of our initiative, we are creating 'solutions that work well
 together.'"
