Centric Telecom Powers up Broadband Active Core in UK

Apr 12, 2001, 01:00 ET from Centric Telecom

LONDON, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Centric Telecom ("Centric"), the Goldman
Sachs and Providence Equity backed broadband service provider, has switched on
its Active Centric Core to deliver extremely high-speed Internet access and
data services to UK businesses. This Active Core, also known as a Point of
Presence ("POP"), enables Centric to aggregate broadband traffic while
providing advanced firewall security and Virtual Private Networks ("VPN") to
 customers.
Centric Telecom partners with leading real estate owners to install and
manage broadband networks and intelligent services to businesses.
The new Active Centric Core is the centrepiece in the Company's expanding
broadband network. This Core closes the 'last mile' by connecting
multi-story, multi-tenant office buildings to the high-speed Internet without
using traditional copper telephone wires or DSL. Centric's leading-edge
network architecture brings the technology advantages of multinational
corporations to Britain's growing companies, in a much more competitive
 package.
Chris Burke, Chief Operating Officer of Centric said: "I am delighted our
Active Centric Core is completed ahead of schedule and within budget. It is
the gateway to high-speed fibre-optic data connections and a wealth of
intelligent services enabling businesses to accelerate sales and lower IT
 costs."
"The Active Centric Core is a major milestone in establishing Centric as a
leading provider of broadband and VPN services to business customers at an
affordable price. Our ability to scale means that we can deliver lower IT
costs to each of our customers," Gordon Smith, Centric's Chief Executive
 Officer, noted.
The Active Centric Core is a major investment by Centric Telecom and
demonstrates the strength of the company's relationships with industry-leading
technology providers. The Active Centric Core is built using the latest
Nortel Networks and Cisco Systems equipment. Repton, an established system
and network integrator, provisioned the technical rollout. Interxion Carrier
Hotel Limited provided a secure, modern co-location facility in the Old Truman
Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London, E1.
