Chaparral Fibre Channel Storage Routers Complete Brocade Fabric Aware End-to-End Interoperability Verification

Chaparral Receives Brocade Fabric Aware Status for Interoperability

In Heterogeneous, Enterprise SAN Environments

Apr 16, 2001, 01:00 ET from Chaparral Network Storage, Inc.

LONGMONT, Colo., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Chaparral Network Storage, Inc.,
a leading provider of intelligent storage networking solutions, announced
today that its FS1310 and FS2620 Fiber Channel storage routers have been
verified by Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD)
as interoperable with Brocade-based SAN infrastructure. The testing was
conducted through the Brocade Fabric Aware(TM) Program, an end-to-end
interoperability initiative for enterprise Storage Area Networks (SANs). The
program is a comprehensive testing and configuration initiative designed to
foster end-to-end SAN interoperability in multi-vendor, heterogeneous
 environments.
Testing was conducted at the Brocade's San Jose, CA interoperability labs,
 a state-of-the-art facility supporting end-to-end interoperability and
performance testing of SAN products in multi-vendor and large fabric SAN
environments. As part of its investment in SAN interoperability, Brocade
actively supports its partners' interoperability initiatives.
"We are pleased that Chaparral has successfully completed the Fabric Aware
testing with Brocade Fibre Channel fabric switches in heterogeneous SAN
environments," said Jay Kidd, Brocade vice president of Product Marketing.
"Storage area networks are being deployed worldwide at a rapid rate as a
scalable, high performance networking foundation for storage environments.
End users are implementing large fabric SANs comprising hundreds of storage
subsystems, servers, and networking technologies, all from multiple vendors.
The Fabric Aware program is an example of our continued investment in
delivering end-to-end SAN interoperability to our partners and their
 customers."
"This achievement clearly validates our commitment in providing
interoperable products for present and future SAN deployments," said Jerry
Walker, executive vice president of corporate development, Chaparral Network
Storage. "Brocade's extensive testing criteria in their world-class facility
provides tremendous value for our mutual customers by certifying
interoperability in a large fabric environment. This is a major step in
removing the guesswork and headaches associated with integrating disparate
 systems."
Chaparral's Intelligent Storage Routers can bridge the gap between SCSI
devices and Fibre Channel networks. In addition, Chaparral Routers can move
data from disk to tape, tape to disk, or disk to disk. This protects a
company's original investment in SCSI storage devices such as tape libraries
and SCSI disk arrays, reducing total cost of ownership.
The Chaparral FS1310 Router is the first router of its kind to be
certified by Brocade. In addition, Brocade's certification of Chaparral's
FS2620 provides customers with the industry's first 2Gb per second dual port
Fibre Channel Router, capable of sustained data transfer rates of over
320 MB/s. Chaparral has been a Brocade Development Partner since October
 1999.

About the Brocade Fabric Aware Program
The Brocade Fabric Aware program is a comprehensive testing and
configuration initiative designed to foster end-to-end SAN interoperability in
a multi-vendor, heterogeneous environment. As part of the program, companies
agree to specify, test, and jointly support pre-tested SAN configurations that
comprise a heterogeneous mix of servers, storage subsystems, Fibre Channel
switches, and other SAN technologies in an enterprise environment. Brocade
has created an interoperability lab comprising a 24-switch SAN fabric, in
which the company tests and validates partner equipment in specific
configurations. Vendors receive Brocade Fabric Aware qualification after
completing rigorous tests to confirm that vendor's products meet
interoperability guidelines in specified, Brocade-based SAN configurations
that span multi-vendor storage subsystems, servers, and SAN components.

     About Chaparral Network Storage, Inc.
Chaparral is a leading provider of high performance products that
facilitate the movement of data between networked storage devices. Chaparral
is focused primarily on developing products for use in the emerging market for
SANs. Chaparral's Intelligent Storage Routers facilitate the interconnection
of SANs with existing SCSI-based servers and storage systems. Chaparral's
external RAID controllers distribute data across multiple hard disk drives to
increase data transfer speeds and deliver fault tolerance. Chaparral's
products are designed to provide a high level of performance, availability and
 functionality.
