ChurchPlaza Signs Agreement With Office Depot to Market To the Nation's 370,000 Churches

Apr 26, 2001, 01:00 ET from ChurchPlaza, Inc.

SARASOTA, Fla., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- ChurchPlaza, Inc., the nation's
leading supplier of products and services to churches, today announced an
exclusive agreement with Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP) to market office
products to the $49 billion church market.
Sarasota, Fla.-based ChurchPlaza said the exclusive agreement allows it to
sell Office Depot's entire product line via a co-branded website at
www.churchplaza.com . Under terms of the agreement, Delray Beach, Fla.-based
Office Depot, the world's largest seller of office products, has agreed to
provide preferred pricing and free delivery to all churches utilizing the
co-branded site. Additionally, a discounted key buy list of frequently
ordered church office products is available.
"Office Depot is the clear leader in the office products industry, and we
are very pleased they have selected us as their entry point into the large and
growing church market," said Dr. Thomas McElheny, founder and CEO of
ChurchPlaza. "Working with them, we can now offer churches the convenience of
24-hour online shopping, a comprehensive selection of high-quality office
 products, and highly competitive pricing."
ChurchPlaza.com was launched earlier this month as the first Internet site
aimed at serving the broad purchasing needs of the nation's churches, and as a
complementary distribution channel to the company's offline business, which is
supported by approximately 90 full-time sales affiliates throughout the United
States. The site brings together thousands of items -- from pews and pulpits
to copiers and phone systems, and now office products -- in an online store
for pastors, church leaders and administrators.
"The $49 billion church market represents an important opportunity for
Office Depot. ChurchPlaza's broad, multi-denominational reach is the ideal
platform for us to penetrate this market," said Monica Luechtefeld, executive
vice president of eCommerce at Office Depot. "We think there is a very good
reason for every church in America to visit ChurchPlaza.com weekly to check
its comprehensive church-related promotions as well as fulfill their office
 product needs."
ChurchPlaza is the preferred supplier of products and services to 36
denominations and associations representing 120,000 churches. It also has
exclusive supplier relationships with leading manufacturers and service
providers in more than 50 product categories, including seating, furniture,
 flooring, lighting, and office products.
"This exclusive agreement with Office Depot is a reflection of our
commitment to be the one-stop resource for the product and service needs of
America's churches," McElheny said. "In addition to the big-ticket items
churches need, such as seating, carpeting and furniture, office products are
an important part of a church's daily operations. We can now offer them the
broadest selection of office products at highly competitive prices, 24-hours a
 day."
ChurchPlaza's agreement with Office Depot marks the latest in a series of
exclusive partnerships announced in recent weeks under its expanded initiative
to develop ChurchPlaza-branded products and services. In the weeks ahead,
ChurchPlaza expects to announce additional strategic alliances, including new
 supplier and denominational partners.
