Clark Launches New Brand Campaign

    OAK BROOK, Ill., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Clark Retail Enterprises, Inc.
 announced the launching of a new brand campaign in the Chicago area, scheduled
 to begin airing April 9, 2001.  The campaign's television commercials take
 Clark's "We're The Real Deal(TM)" brand message to a new level by celebrating
 the customer in humorous images drawn from real life, inspired by actual
 consumer behavior observed at Clark gasoline pumps and convenience stores.
 Viewers will also be reminded of Clark's core value message of great deals,
 with high-quality gasoline and convenience products at fair, competitive
 prices.
     "The new campaign is designed to expand our customer base and further
 develop the Clark brand's value message through slice-of-life images that
 speak to our target demographics, the 'real people' looking for a 'real
 deal,'" said John Matthews, vice president of marketing and corporate
 communications for Clark.  "It effectively communicates what distinguishes us
 from the competition and promotes a strategy that will continue to attract new
 customers."
     The campaign will consist of four new :15 and :30 television spots and a
 new radio campaign in metropolitan Chicago markets.  In addition, a
 supplemental brand-building program, consisting of local marketing tie-ins and
 promotional opportunities, will be implemented throughout Clark's marketplaces
 in the Midwest.
     Ron Cicero of X-Ray Productions, Inc., Los Angeles, directed the new
 campaign's television spots, which were developed by Schafer Condon Carter
 Advertising, Chicago.  SpaceTime, Chicago, manages the media planning and
 buying for Clark.
