    MAYNARD, Mass., April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
Stratus Technologies, provider of the world's most reliable server
technologies, today announced that Clermont County, Ohio, has selected the
Stratus(R) Continuum(R) 412 server to provide continuous availability for its
communications center and 911 dispatch operations. Faced with thousands of
emergency 911 calls each week, Clermont County selected continuously available
computing from Stratus to support public safety 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Clermont County, the third largest of 88 Ohio counties and home to 180,000
people, supports more than 3,900 emergency 911 calls each week. If even one
percent of those calls is lost, 39 people or properties could be at risk. As a
result, Clermont County relies on Stratus Continuum servers to support
emergency 911, computer-aided dispatch and message switching to ensure public
 protection.
"Any company that aims to deliver excellent service should take a lesson
from Stratus," said Ralph Justus, Systems Manager of Clermont County, Ohio.
"With Stratus, we are never worried that a part may need repair or attention.
On that rare occasion when there is a problem, Stratus fixes it before we even
know about it. That frees us to focus on providing reliable and constant
 communication with the public."
Stratus' capability to deliver continuous uptime and round-the-clock
operations is due to the self-contained, duplexed architecture of the
Continuum system. Virtually all hardware components are duplicated but
operate together as one seamless system. If one component fails, the other
continues processing without any application interruption. Unlike high-
availability cluster solutions, the Stratus Continuum platform is easy to use,
maintain and service without downtime or degradation in application
performance. When a component in a Stratus system fails, the server "phones
home" to a service support center, and a replacement part is immediately
dispatched to the site and "hot-swapped" without taking the application or
system offline, even for a second.
"Today, more and more computer tasks need to be up and running 24x7, but
few are more critical than 911 operations," said Steve Kiely, President and
CEO of Stratus Technologies. "Municipal authorities throughout the world rely
on Stratus technology for the power behind 'heartbeat' applications."
