CMS Energy Names John McLaughlin Vice President of Corporate Planning

    DEARBORN, Mich., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation
 (NYSE:   CMS) today announced John M. McLaughlin, Jr., has been named to the new
 position of vice president of corporate planning.
     Mr. McLaughlin, 50, will be responsible for managing CMS Energy's
 financial and strategic planning, financial forecasting and business
 intelligence activities.  "All Corporate planning functions will be
 consolidated into a single organization under John McLaughlin's leadership,"
 said Preston D. Hopper, CMS Energy's senior vice president, corporate
 performance and chief accounting officer, to whom Mr. McLaughlin will report.
     In 1998 Mr. McLaughlin became CMS Energy's vice president of development
 for The Americas, Southern Hemisphere, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Before
 that he had been vice president of Latin American development for CMS Energy's
 independent power unit, CMS Generation Co., since 1993.  He was also
 responsible for administrative functions at CMS Generation, including
 planning.
     Mr. McLaughlin joined Consumers Energy in 1984, and established the
 Company's Investor Relations department in 1985.  Mr. McLaughlin earned a law
 degree from Wayne State University, an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh
 and a bachelor's degree from Albion College.  He is active in various civic
 organizations, both in the United States and Argentina.
