Apr 13, 2009, 13:04 ET from Columbus Citizens Foundation

NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Columbus Citizens Foundation, a leading Italian-American non-profit, today announced the creation of the Foundation's Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund, which will provide support to benefit survivors of the earthquake that has decimated central Italy.

"The devastating earthquake that hit central Italy on April 6, 2009 has left hundreds of people dead, thousands injured, and tens of thousands without homes," said Louis Tallarini, president of the Columbus Citizens Foundation. "From the people who live in Abruzzo's farms to the residents of the small town of Onna to those who live in the region's capital of L'Aquila, no one in the region is untouched by the disaster."

"Our Foundation stands poised to assist the men, women and children whose lives were shattered," Mr. Tallarini continued. "We have called on our members to provide relief assistance, and they are responding generously as they did in the aftermath of the earthquake in Italy in 1980, when we donated over $225,000 towards the relief effort. We now call on all Americans to think of the thousands of people afflicted and their tremendous needs today and of the mission of rebuilding lives that will take years."

All contributions to the CCF Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund are tax deductible, and every dollar donated will benefit survivors of the Abruzzo earthquake. Checks should be made payable to the Columbus Citizens Foundation, with Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund written in the memo line.
