LONDON and LAS VEGAS, April 20 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
Command Audio, a U.S. technology firm, has transmitted on-demand interactive
audio programming, including music and spoken word programs with accompanying
text and image files, through the Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) network in the
UK . The successful demonstration brings 'Personal Radio' a step closer to
full deployment. Command Audio's Thom Linden, CTO, VP of Engineering, will
discuss these developments at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)
Conference's "International DAB Panel" on Sunday, April 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in
 Las Vegas.
"These transmissions demonstrate another significant step for Command
Audio in making 'Personal Radio' a reality," said Linden. "With our on-demand
interactive audio technology, digital broadcasters will be able to deliver to
their listeners unmatched choice, control and personalization."
U.S.-owned NTL, one of the largest network infrastructure companies in the
UK, set aside DAB bandwidth, the DRAFFT spectrum, to enable the tests. Jon
Trowsdale, NTL's Broadcast Radio Director, said, "Command Audio's
demonstration of on-demand interactive audio marks a significant milestone in
the development of truly new services that capitalize on the advantages of
digital radio. NTL is proud to have played a role in this proof-of-concept
testing to establish the viability of 'Personal Radio.'"
Earlier this year, Command Audio, Capital Radio (the UK's largest
commercial broadcaster) and UBC Media Group (an innovative content provider to
the UK broadcast industry) formed a joint venture, Command Audio UK, to
develop and license others to create on-demand interactive audio programs for
delivery across the UK DAB service. Command Audio will provide the end-to-end
solutions that enable broadcasters to deliver Personal Radio while Capital and
UBC bring their well-known capabilities to produce first-rate content. At the
same time, MXR, the digital radio multiplex operator, and Command Audio
announced the signing of an agreement to dedicate a portion of MXR's bandwidth
for the delivery of on-demand interactive audio programming using the Command
Audio technology. These alliances will allow digital radio listeners to enjoy
vastly more choice and control over what they listen to and when.
