HOUSTON, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ)
today announced that it achieved its 10,000th implementation of mySAP
applications worldwide at Unilever, a leading global FMCG company. The first
to reach this unprecedented milestone, Compaq once again demonstrates its
leadership as a global enterprise solutions provider to help customers reduce
risk and speed up implementation time of business-critical computing.
Compaq's tremendous success with SAP enterprise applications is the result
of its strong relationships with SAP and the investments both companies have
made to optimize Compaq platforms to run mySAP applications.
"Compaq is proud of winning our 10,000th SAP installation. Compaq and
Unilever will work as a team to ensure that all geographies are rolled into
this production system in the timescales provided by the business and
application centers," said Karl-Heinz Cypris, director of global SAP alliance.
"Unilever can count on Compaq because of our depth of understanding of the
technology and our commitment to providing the best overall value."
The 10,000th SAP installation consists of standard building blocks of
Compaq GS Series AlphaServers for database servers, Compaq ES series
AlphaServers for application servers, and StorageWorks for the Storage Area
Networks (SAN). Compaq's expertise with the design of multiplatform
environments was instrumental in delivering this system to Unilever. Once
completed, the Unilever implementation will be one of the largest mySAP.com
installations in the world, supporting 55,000 users throughout Europe.
"Unilever GIO-ES (Global Infrastructure Organisation-European Services) is
a newly created organisation with the objective to provide a customer focused
service that not only meets but also exceeds the IT infrastructure
requirements of Unilever in Europe achieved through an in-depth knowledge of
customer requirements. The GIO-ES has chosen Compaq as its partner to help
implement this project. Compaq has provided project management, solutions
architects and SAP experts to work jointly with Unilever in the development of
the infrastructure, the installation of the systems and SAP onto those
systems, and the handover to GIO-ES customers" said Lars Stork, Vice President
and Head of GIO-ES, Unilever PLC.
Compaq and SAP have worked together for over eight years and that close
alliance has enabled Compaq to gain unparalleled experience in the enterprise
application marketplace. Compaq combines its powerful, reliable and scaleable
ProLiant and AlphaServer hardware, along with Compaq's implementation services
and support, to deploy my SAP solutions quickly and effectively. This enables
the customer to get the most out of its IT investment. Services include
vendor management for SAP environments, 7X24 on-site response, system health
check services, remote management services, enhanced hardware/software
technical support, and onsite or local spare parts inventories.
In addition, Compaq has SAP Competency Centers located around the world,
including Houston, Munich, Walldorf, Germany, and Tokyo. These centers help
customers and partners appropriately size Compaq hardware for the long-term
needs of their business. Compaq continues to work with SAP and its channel
partners to develop new programs designed to ease implementation of SAP
 solutions and reduce operating costs.
