May 08, 2001, 01:00 ET from Computer Associates International, Inc.

ISLANDIA, N.Y. and OREM, Utah, May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Associates
International, Inc. (CA), the world leader in eBusiness management solutions,
and operating systems innovator Caldera International, today announced an
extension of their partnership to provide customers comprehensive management
of their existing IT environments as well as optimum flexibility in their OS
 implementation strategies.
Under the agreement, CA will continue to support Caldera's entire line of
leading-edge operating systems - which encompasses Caldera Open Unix (SCO
UnixWare), Caldera OpenServer (SCO OpenServer) and Caldera Linux -- under CA's
acclaimed Unicenter TNG eBusiness management platform. CA has also committed
to supporting all future versions of Caldera's popular operating systems. In
addition, Caldera is endorsing Unicenter TNG as an eBusiness management
 platform-of-choice for its OS customers.
Unicenter TNG provides comprehensive management capabilities for servers
and desktops running Caldera operating systems. These capabilities include
asset management, software distribution, performance monitoring,
 backup/restore automation, and security administration.
Unicenter TNG provides comprehensive management capabilities for all
Caldera operating system customers. To facilitate the installation of
Unicenter TNG, Caldera International has added code to OpenLinux that greatly
reduces the installation time of Unicenter TNG on Caldera systems and making
the transition to Linux much easier for their SCO customers.

CA's offering of Unicenter TNG across all Caldera operating systems will:

     * Provide Caldera/SCO customers a common, powerful management solution for
systems resources based on Caldera operating systems.

     * Enable Caldera customers to manage those resources in parallel with
other popular operating systems supported by Unicenter TNG.

     * Support Caldera customers' OS migration plans by eliminating potential
constraints that could be caused by management software
       incompatibilities.

"CA has always been committed to helping customers take maximum advantage
of existing infrastructure investments while helping them incorporate new
technologies into their IT strategies," said Tarkan Maner, vice president,
corporate marketing, CA. "Through this relationship, we are once again doing
exactly that -- making sure that customers can effectively manage their
existing UNIX systems today as they begin to formulate their OS platform
decisions for their future eBusiness endeavors."
"Unicenter TNG combined with Caldera Volution offers powerful end-to-end
management capabilities for Caldera customers deploying our operating systems
to support business-critical applications and services," said Mike Ballengee,
vice president, strategic relations, Caldera International, Inc. "We look
forward to working closely with CA to make sure that our mutual customers get
maximum business value from their Caldera servers and desktops."
To promote their integrated OS/management solutions, CA and Caldera are
engaging in a variety of joint sales and marketing initiatives, including
 seminars and online webcasts.
"CA has supported Linux users with enterprise management under Unicenter
TNG for some time," said Paul Mason, group vice president, Infrastructure
Software Research, IDC. "But the significance of this announcement for
Caldera Linux customers is that CA, unlike other vendors, is also committed to
Caldera's SCO platforms. This gives Caldera customers the flexibility to
pursue any type of Linux migration they prefer, without having to worry about
whether or not they will be able to maintain unified, full-function management
 of their eBusiness environment."
