Maximizes System Integrity and Development Efficiency

Essential For eBusiness Success

Mar 12, 2001, 00:00 ET from Computer Associates International, Inc.

    ISLANDIA, N.Y., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Associates
International, Inc. (CA) today announced the release of version 2.5 of Ingres
II, CA's relational DBMS and application development environment. This latest
release contains enhancements to further maximize system integrity and
 optimize development efficiency.
Ingres II 2.5 extends the ability of organizations to cohesively develop
and maintain robust, scalable solutions across a variety of platforms,
including S/390, Windows, OpenVMS, Unix, and Linux. Other enhancements
include improved file management capabilities for larger file sizes.
"The ability of Ingres II 2.5 to easily handle file sizes in excess of two
gigabytes allows us to manage large files without compression," said Ruggero
Rinaldi, CIO, Marifin S.p.A., a storage service provider headquartered in
Rome, Italy. "These and other Ingres II 2.5 enhancements dramatically improve
our ability to access and leverage mission-critical data, increasing our
 productivity significantly."
Ingres II version 2.5 also provides integrated HTML publishing
capabilities, supporting rapid development of high-performance web-based
applications. Enhancements to Ingres ICE (Internet Commerce Enabled) permit
the secure interchange of information between business systems and external
parties via the Web, thereby adding a new dimension of interaction with
 suppliers, distributors and customers.
Additional features -- including remote access and high availability
replication -- extend user access to a wide variety of enterprise data.
Performance enhancements include file size and memory support improvements,
optimized row-level locking specifications on a table or user basis, and
 enhanced Internet security.
"As companies with substantial investments in Ingres technology implement
eBusiness initiatives, performance and reliability become critical success
factors," said Phil Parkin, chairman of the Ingres User Association in the
United Kingdom. "The enhancements in Ingres 2.5 demonstrate CA's continued
commitment to our success and are very welcome."
"Ingres II 2.5 represents a competitive offering that should be seriously
considered by organizations seeking a high performance, reliable database
solution, " said Philip Howard, Associate Analyst at Bloor Research, a
European-based independent research and consultancy group. "The product has
always been excellent from a technical perspective and this new release
 continues in the same tradition."
By providing a comprehensive management environment featuring an
intuitive, drag-and-drop graphical interface for managing servers,
applications, and key information assets, Ingres II version 2.5 reduces staff
training requirements and minimizes administrative overhead.
"eBusiness initiatives are forcing companies to find better ways to work
with their diverse data resources," said John Ainsworth, senior vice
president, CA. "With its intuitive administration tools, enterprise-strength
database system, and ability to interact with a wide range of disparate data
sources, Ingres II 2.5 provides a very attractive and practical solution for
 fulfilling these critical eBusiness requirements."
Ingres II 2.5 is currently available under CA's new simplified licensing
model on HP-UX, Solaris, Window NT and Linux. Support for additional
platforms is expected to follow shortly.
