Cranial One Corporation Introduces New Smell Screening Product for Physicians

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Cranial One Corporation

    MONTCLAIR, N.J., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Cranial One Corporation, a
privately held company that provides rapid screening of smell function for the
clinical practitioner, today announced the launch schedule for its flagship
product, the Cranial I Quick Sniff(TM).
Under development for more than two years, the Cranial I Quick Sniff is a
disposable, single-use odor presentation for the assessment of olfactory
function. The product, which uses recently patented fragrance delivery
technology, lets a physician give his or her patient a high-quality,
standardized smell sample. It also includes a peel-off data panel that makes
 recording results quick and easy.
Company President Avery N. Gilbert says, "There's an enormous need for a
rapid and inexpensive screening of olfactory nerve function. With the Cranial
I Quick Sniff, it takes less than a minute to screen a patient and record
results in the medical chart. The product is ideal for use in the
 comprehensive evaluation of nasal function."
The company expects to supply the product to a variety of medical
specialties, including otorhinolaryngology, neurology, emergency medicine and
 gerontology.
According to Gilbert, the Cranial I Quick Sniff costs less per patient
than any other form of smell evaluation, making it cost-effective for everyday
use in the exam room and clinical office. He notes that definitive diagnosis
of impaired odor perception requires expensive and time-consuming testing
procedures. The Cranial I Quick Sniff can help clinicians justify these
 additional patient resources.
Product details: Sixteen copies of the Cranial I Quick Sniff are bundled
into a convenient, checkbook-sized booklet which physicians will find
convenient to keep in their exam rooms and office. The company expects to
begin promotional distribution of the product in a nation-wide mailing to
doctors. Initially, the product will be available for sale exclusively
through the company's Web site at http://www.cranial-one.com. Plans call for
the site to go live in June 2001.
