Crescent Jewelers Announces Second Quarter Sales Results

    OAKLAND, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Crescent Jewelers, a specialty
 retailer of fine jewelry, today announced sales results for the fiscal quarter
 ended March 31, 2001.  Net merchandise sales for the quarter increased 1.9% to
 $26.8 million, compared to $26.3 million during the same period last year.
 Comparable store sales decreased 1.2% during the quarter ended March 31, 2001,
 versus an increase of 13.4% for the comparable quarter last year.  At
 March 31, 2001 the Company had 152 stores in operation.
     For the six-month period, net merchandise sales increased 5.6% to
 $81.8 million compared to $77.4 million for the same period last year.
 Comparable store sales increased 3.2% during the six-month period.
     Crescent Jewelers is a west coast based specialty retailer of fine
 jewelry.  At April 4, 2001, Crescent operated 152 stores in seven states,
 97 of which were located in regional malls and 55 of which were located in
 power strip centers.  The Company also offers products on-line at
