Cricket.com Aggressively Advances Development of Business

Apr 17, 2001, 01:00 ET from Communicate.com, Inc.

    SEATTLE, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Communicate.com Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: CMNN), announced today that Cricket.com Inc., in which it
holds a substantial equity interest, has developed and launched a series of
business features that have firmly established it as the premier Internet
property devoted to the sport of cricket. Since announcing the partnership
and launch of Cricket.com in mid January of this year roll-out plans have been
accelerated and the results have been encouraging from the standpoint of
increases in audience numbers and revenue potential. Cricket.com management
is confident of further significant gains going forward.
In the last two and a half months Cricket.com has grown its audience
substantially in addition to now having more than 11,000 members using
Cricket.com e-mail (yourname@cricket.com). There are now more than 150 new
members signing up each day. The growth has been driven by the addition of
several compelling features that are attracting a growing and attractive
audience. In addition to message boards, chat rooms and a cricket store for
cricket fans the site has also just launched a Cricket Lottery for prize
give-aways during top international cricket matches. Other soon to be
launched features include Fantasy Cricket software for users wanting to build
their own teams and compete with other fans and a Virtual Cricket Stock
Exchange where users are able to trade virtual dollars in their favorite
players and teams shares while in competition for prizes.
Perhaps the most exciting feature launched during the recent
Australia-India test match series is Cricket.com's new live "ball by ball"
coverage provided by the company's team of reporters. Through this real-time
reporting channel cricket fans can keep up to the second tabs on their
favorite teams' progress during major matches from anywhere with an internet
connection. "Cricket has a huge worldwide audience but depending on where you
are it can be difficult to find a broadcast for a match half way around the
globe", said Cricket.com President, Atul Mehta. "Our 'ball by ball' feature
really delivers for cricket-hungry fans and is our first move forward into
digital broadcasting of top matches from around the cricket world. It's very
popular and our traffic increases demonstrate that!"
The rapid growth has also allowed the company to launch two new
advertising partnerships with Advertising.com and FastClick both of which are
actively selling Cricket.com ad placements in selected markets. Discussions
have also commenced with several international corporations interested in
long term sponsorship arrangements. "Our development to date is very
encouraging and revenue growth prospects look promising. Reaching
profitability in 2nd Quarter 2001 looks very realistic at this time",
Atul Mehta further noted. "We were very confident that the cricket audience
would be an exciting opportunity for Communicate.com as long as we had a solid
plan and a qualified partner", said Communicate.com President, Graham Heal.
"Our partners at Cricket.com are developing their business nicely and are
providing compelling content and features that will continue to attract a
rapidly growing number of the more than 1.7 Million cricket fans worldwide."
