CSM and Million Moms Rally Against Relaxing Conceal Carry Permitting Bill At State Capitol Rotunda; Friday, April 27 @ 8 AM

'Keep Minnesota Safe, Defeat CCW' Event to Focus on NRA Myths

Apr 27, 2001, 01:00 ET from Citizens for a Safer Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Citizens for a Safer Minnesota
and the Minnesota Chapter of the Million Mom March are sponsoring an 8 AM
rally at the State Capitol Rotunda today to focus legislator's attention on
NRA sponsored myths on the benefits of arming more citizens to reduce crime.
"Clearly, having more concealed and loaded handguns on the street makes us
all more vulnerable to violence," said Rebecca Thoman, MD, CSM's Executive
Director. "We want Minnesotans to know that we are dangerously close to having
50,000 new concealed and loaded handguns per year on our streets if the CCW
bill is amended onto any bill in the Minnesota Senate," Thoman added.
The backdrop of the "Keep Minnesota Safe, Defeat CCW" rally are the
efforts this week by proponents of easier Conceal and Carry Permitting Laws to
attach previously defeated bills onto various Minnesota Senate bills. Today
the focus is on the Senate Transportation Committee.
