FALLS CHURCH, Va., June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CSRA Inc. (NYSE: CSRA) a leading provider of next-gen technology solutions for the federal government, on Flag Day announced it has become the official gold sponsor of the U.S. flag emoji. The Unicode Consortium's Adopt-a-Character program allows anyone to permanently adopt and dedicate an emoji, letter, or symbol on the keyboard.
The idea for adopting the emoji arose from an email to CSRA CEO Larry Prior from Dr. Chris Leonard. Dr. Leonard is a scientific review manager in CSRA's Peer Review and Scientific Management group in Frederick, MD.
"A big part of what we do at CSRA is bring advanced technological solutions to our U.S. government clients," Dr. Leonard said. "Supporting the Unicode Consortium by adopting the U.S. flag emoji somehow distills that down to a single character tweet. It just seems to fit. Many of our customers wear that flag with pride on their shoulders every day, and I couldn't be prouder to show our support for them than by adopting the US flag emoji."
In his spare volunteer time, Leonard helps indigenous and digitally-disadvantaged language communities translate free and open source children's educational software into their native tongues.
"By making it possible to display their native alphabets on a computer, the work of the Unicode Consortium is critical for making educational technology accessible to these children," says Leonard.
"The email from Dr. Leonard was emblematic of our core value of imagination, where the best idea wins," says CEO Prior. "CSRA is dedicated to helping our public-sector customers fulfill their most critical missions. Sponsoring the U.S. flag emoji is a symbol of how proud we are to partner with the U.S. government and our dedication to public service."
