CYRANO Releases Roadmap for OpenSTA(TM) Commercial Modules

Development Plans and Delivery Commitment for the Modules That Will Propel

OpenSTA(TM) into a Newly Defined Market Space for End-To-End Management,

Performance Testing, and Monitoring of E-Business Applications In

Heterogeneous WEB-based Environments

Mar 15, 2001, 00:00 ET from CYRANO Inc.

BOSTON, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- CYRANO today announced the planned
release dates for the commercial modules associated with OpenSTA(TM).
OpenSTA(TM) (Open System Testing Architecture) is a free and Open Source
distributed testing environment that enables you to perform realistic
e-business applications heavy load or stress tests with performance
 measurement.
CYRANO now plans to extend the capabilities of OpenSTA(TM) by providing
commercial modules that simply plug-in to the existing Open Source
architecture and central repository, so that as a business user's WEB
applications environment grows, so too can their single solution for testing,
monitoring, and analysis. This theory allows business users to use
OpenSTA(TM) for both Development and Quality Assurance, through to Production,
and on to Management making it the only tool designed to uniquely fit the
needs of the Test Engineer, DBA, Webmaster, QA Manager and CIO.
"CYRANO is in the business of software testing and quality assurance",
said Noelle Beaudin, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development.
"It is in our best interest to provide the highest quality e-business testing
tool to everyone. It is in everyone's best interest to use a technology that
will grow with his or her needs, especially when the core technology is free.
It is in the executive's best interest to invest in the future of their
company, and if the future of their company depends on ensuring that all
members of their staff can utilize a single tool that will help Production,
Development and Management maintain the heart of their business -- then that
 tool is OpenSTA(TM)."
"Our vision is to create the Rosetta stone of WAE (WEB Application
Environment) understanding," said Robert Ernens, Chairman and CEO of CYRANO.
"OpenSTA(TM) will finally allow all the players involved in mission critical
e-business applications deployments to understand each other when it comes to
providing the service level that their users can expect."

OpenSTA(TM) Modules -- descriptions and delivery dates
Currently, there are four categories of OpenSTA(TM) modules planned.
These categories, and the related modules, are listed below.

     * Database Performance and Analysis Data Collection -- Q2/Q3 2001
The OpenSTA(TM) DB Monitor module and the OpenSTA(TM) SQL Analysis module
will allow users to monitor the performance of their database servers and
pinpoint performance issues up to the SQL statement level while running
load test of their WAE or while their WAE runs in production. OpenSTA(TM)
DB Monitor modules and OpenSTA(TM) SQL Analysis module will be released
for SYBASE Adaptive Server, Oracle, Microsoft SQL and IBM DB2.

     *  Custom Applications Server Data Collection -- Q4 2001 to Q1 2002
The OpenSTA(TM) Portal Monitor module will provide users with the ability
to collect performance information about their business transactions as
executed by their portal software. CYRANO intends to deliver OpenSTA(TM)
Portal Monitor modules, either directly or in partnership with the portal
vendors. APIs will be made available to allow application server vendors
to take advantage of OpenSTA(TM) core architecture, central repository and
Results Analysis module. CYRANO intends to deliver OpenSTA(TM) Portal
Monitor modules for SYBASE Enterprise Portal, Oracle 9i, IBM Websphere,
BEA WebLogic and Netscape iPlanet. CYRANO will also offer a range of
custom data collection modules, called Applications Server Monitoring
modules, which will collect software performance data and transaction
performance data directly from the WAE Applications Servers.

     *  Production Data Collection -- Q4 2001 to Q2 2002
The OpenSTA(TM) Production Modeling module will allow QA engineers to
conduct realistic load and stress test by modeling actual transactions mix
as recorded from real users behavior during production runs. The
OpenSTA(TM) Unit Testing module will provide Webmasters, DBAs, QA
Engineers and Application specialists with the mean of conducting tests on
any faulty components without the need of the entire WAE infrastructure
while allowing the use of OpenSTA(TM) Results Analysis module to pinpoint
the performance problems. OpenSTA(TM) Unit Testing modules will be
released for the various Database Servers and Application Servers
supported by OpenSTA(TM) DB Monitor and Portal Monitor modules.

     *  Results Analysis -- Q3 2001
The OpenSTA(TM) Results Analysis module will offer a multi-view approach
to the analysis of data collected during both Testing and Monitoring of
WAEs. OpenSTA(TM) users can configure the data presentation, filtering,
analysis and reporting of the OpenSTA(TM) Results Analysis module to suit
their requirements. These re-usable configurations provide views of the
WAE ranging from high-level transactions to software components through to
     low-level hardware performance.
This approach to the analysis of data allows OpenSTA(TM) to be used by all
levels of the WAE Design, Development, Quality Assurance, Production and
Management staff. Users can view data in a format that is specific to
their own role, whilst still being able to drill down whenever they need
additional information. This single data, multi-view approach will help
WAE staff to quickly identify and resolve problems within their system.
The OpenSTA(TM) Results Analysis module forms one of the most important
features behind the OpenSTA(TM) theory. Ultimately, the OpenSTA(TM)
Results Analysis module will include artificial intelligence technologies
to assist users in fixing performance issues within their WAE.

     * Changes in OpenSTA(TM) core architecture to meet these needs
Additions to the Open Source architecture are planned. In order to add
monitoring and replay via the WEB, some additions will need to be made
and these changes have already been planned for in development.
OpenSTA(TM) v1.2 will be released in Q2 2001 and will include WAE
Monitoring in the core architecture. In Q3 of 2001, OpenSTA(TM)
v1.4 will be released where replay via the WEB will be included in the
core architecture. As always, this will be available via Open Source
and will be free to all users.

"Our development vision has never been more clear," said Lee-Daniel
Sutcliffe, Technical Product Manager for OpenSTA(TM). "CYRANO has the
visionary power and development expertise to capitalize on the technological
opportunities that await the market. As we focus on the new opportunities
that await us, we are already prepared to put our plans into place."
