DATATRAK International Continues to Advance Product Suite Through the Release of Version 3.1

Release Includes Advancement of Previously Announced Award-Winning Web-based

Training Module for the Enhanced User Interface of DATATRAK Entry(TM)

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from DATATRAK International, Inc.

CLEVELAND, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- DATATRAK International, Inc.
(Nasdaq: DATA) the leading and most experienced Application Service Provider
(ASP) in the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) industry announced today that it
has released Version 3.1 of its DATATRAK EDC(TM) Product Suite. Similar to
other software development efforts from this experienced team, this Release
was completed on schedule. Version 3.1 will be instituted in a production mode
with multiple new projects to begin within the next two weeks.
Advancements made in Version 3.1 pertain to an enhanced user interface
allowing for more efficient data entry and review capabilities through a
"study navigator" representation that can be optionally displayed
simultaneously with the DATATRAK Entry(TM) and Review(TM) Modules. This
allows the user to see the entire status of a study or a specific site within
one single view. The Report(TM)/Export(TM) capabilities, which are heavily
XML-based, allow for expansive data review, compilation, and representation
across worldwide programs, complete with a "push button" SAS export feature.
This new release also contains a "migration tool" allowing for the
transitioning of projects currently in a production mode with Version 3.0 over
to Version 3.1, so that established customers/users can benefit from this
upgrade. Underlying database advancements have now made DATATRAK EDC(TM)
infinitely scalable. These enhancements, coupled with the already second-to-
none performance characteristics at dial-up connection speeds make this
product suite a technical leader in this emerging industry.
Enhancements made to the award-winning Web-based training course for
DATATRAK Entry(TM) are directly related to DATATRAK's adoption of the SCORM
standard (Shareable Courseware Object Reference Model) for the delivery of
electronic training. This capability allows for rapid customization of course
content specific to a sponsor's protocol. This is a question routinely asked
by customers and now DATATRAK International can provide this capability
relatively easily by utilizing the individual "building blocks" of information
made possible through the use of SCORM.
"Through this announcement, DATATRAK continues to show product leadership
in all aspects of performance. Our customers will greatly benefit from our
ability to quickly deploy important global clinical research projects," says
Marc Shlaes, Vice President of Research and Development.
"There are several ways in which to evaluate companies in this emerging
EDC market, and innovation and the ability to deliver are certainly close to
the top of the list," stated Dr. Jeffrey A. Green, President & CEO of DATATRAK
International, Inc. "Given that EDC in general has had a challenging
reputation to overcome secondary to unfulfilled promises over the past several
decades, in this Company we place delivery and service above market hype. Our
success at achieving these objectives is evidenced by a high rate of repeat
business and a published international user satisfaction rate of 95% with our
software suite by a customer, a feat unparalleled in this market space. Our
software development team continues to hit scheduled deadlines pertaining to
product advancements and those who follow software development companies
understand that this is more the exception than the rule. The experience and
the demonstrated productivity of this team substantiates our claim as the most
experienced EDC Company in the industry."

Except for the historical information contained in this press release, the
statements made in this release are forward-looking statements. Factors that
may cause actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-
looking statements include the ability of the Company to absorb corporate
overhead and other fixed costs in order to successfully market the DATATRAK
EDC(TM) software; the development and fluctuations in the market for
electronic data capture technology; continued unreliability of the Internet
infrastructure; the degree of the Company's success in obtaining new
contracts; the timing of payments from customers and the timing of clinical
trial sponsor decisions to conduct new clinical trials or cancel or delay
ongoing trials; dependence on key personnel; governmental regulation; the
early stage of the Company's EDC business and operations; and general economic
conditions. In addition, the Company's success depends on the outcome of
various strategic initiatives it has undertaken, all of which are based on
