Del Webb Reports March Home Orders

Apr 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from Del Webb Corporation

PHOENIX, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Del Webb Corporation (NYSE: WBB), the
nation's leading developer of active adult and lifestyle communities,
announced today new home orders last month declined 19 percent compared with
March 2000. However, company officials stressed that "extraordinary" sales in
March 2000, which were nearly 18 percent higher than in any other month in
fiscal 2000, make year-to-year comparisons very difficult.
Overall orders in March 2001 totaled 702 and were the highest monthly
orders achieved in the first nine months of this fiscal year.
Webb reported that orders also were lower by 13 percent for the
three-month period ended March 31, 2001 as compared to one year ago.
Orders in the company's active adult communities, Webb's core business,
were down 15 percent in March and declined 5 percent in the three-month
period. However, orders in Webb's California active adult communities
continued at a record pace, up 35 percent in the three-month period. On a
"same store" basis in its active adult communities and excluding last year's
sale/leaseback of model homes and vacation units, orders were flat for the
three-month period and down by 7 percent for March.
In its family and country club communities, orders were off 29 percent in
March and declined 30 percent for the three-month period. March family
community orders were impacted primarily by Webb's decision a year ago to
begin closing out its Coventry Homes operations in the Las Vegas market.
