Delphi's Olathe Battery Plant Receives Caterpillar Quality Certification

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Delphi Automotive Systems

OLATHE, Kan., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Automotive Systems
(NYSE: DPH) announced today its Olathe battery plant has earned Caterpillar's
Quality Assured Supplier Certification. The award is given to select
suppliers that consistently meet Caterpillar's high quality standards.
Caterpillar officials visited the plant Wednesday afternoon to award the
 certification.
"Our customers expect a lot from us, and when we can exceed their
expectations and achieve a mark like this, it reinforces our daily commitment
to quality," said Ronald Pogue, business line executive, energy management
systems, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems.
     Delphi's Olathe plant supplies Caterpillar-branded 13-inch heavy-duty
batteries to various Caterpillar assembly plants and dealers in North America.
"Caterpillar has been a customer here since 1998," said Christopher
Ketterer, Olathe plant manager. "They really heightened their specifications
for this certification, and I'm proud that our team was able to meet their
 high marks."
Caterpillar's certification enhancements focus on shifting emphasis from
detection to prevention. Five standards must be met for suppliers to qualify:
statistical process control and process capability, delivery performance,
process failure mode and effects analysis, new job start up and
results-oriented continuous improvement. It's the company's goal to
eventually certify all of its suppliers.
Delphi's Olathe battery plant has approximately 280 employees. The plant
has been in operation since 1956.
