Desert Storm Veteran Warren Bayreuther Wants Every Business That's for Sale in America
NIANTIC, Conn., July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans Business and Lodging Center (http://www.veteransbb.com/) was founded with one purpose in mind – to get homeless veterans off the streets and into business ownership. Company owner Warren Bayreuther wants to purchase as many hospitality and lodging businesses as possible as step one in his mission to help the nation's homeless veterans.
"Veterans are my people," says Bayreuther, who was a fire support specialist during his service with the 24th Infantry Division in Iraq. "I've always wanted to help give these people a chance to take back their lives. My goal is to create thousands of jobs, not just through my business, but also through businesses that veterans launch."
Bayreuther intends to buy up apartment buildings, mobile home parks and businesses across the nation so that homeless vets can be off the streets. Once these vets are safely housed, they can enter job assessment and training programs to put their military experience and skills to good use. Training as CDL truck drivers is just one of many opportunities that Veterans Business and Lodging Center hopes to create for this population.
According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, almost 50,000 veterans are without a safe place to stay on any given night. More than 10,000 of those served in Iraq at some point in the last 15 years. Another 1.4 million vets are considered at high risk of becoming homeless.
The cause of veteran homelessness is two-fold. On the one hand, vets experience the same obstacles as the general homeless population, such as shortages of affordable housing, health care and access to livable incomes. On the other hand, veterans face some unique challenges. Many grapple daily with the effects of PTSD, which frequently spiral into substance abuse, depression and other mental health issues.
Homeless veterans often have little or no support network; a helping hand can truly be the difference between a hopeful view of the future, and an uncertain life spent on the streets. The VA does what it can to help these vets, but the problem is too big. Veterans Business and Lodging Center hopes to be meet this problem head on, and be the helping hand these vets need.
