DIRECTV(TM) Is Authorized to Provide Service in Uruguay

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- DIRECTV Latin America, a
 Hughes Electronics Corporation (NYSE:   GMH) affiliate and exclusive provider of
 the DIRECTV(TM) satellite television entertainment services, received
 authorization from the Uruguayan government to provide satellite television
 services to Uruguayan subscribers.  The cabinet of the President Jorge Batlle,
 in a decree signed by him and Luis Brezzo, the Uruguayan Defense Minister,
 indicates that DIRECTV fulfilled all requirements mandated by Uruguay to offer
 service in the country.
