PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- During her sophomore year of high school, Adrienne Drgac and her classmates were assigned a project that required them to learn about slavery in the diamond, chocolate, and fish industries. It wasn't until one classmate's mother came to speak to the class that Adrienne got a sense for how serious this problem really is. After this visit from their classmate's mother, the class soon got involved with the Touch a Life organization, a group dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating children who are victims of slavery, who experience everything from infections and disease, to emotional scarring.
As the students learned about the work of Touch a Life and the tragedy of children caught in trafficking, Adrienne's sophomore class felt motivated to take action. The class decided to sponsor a child through Touch a Life, providing him with shelter, clothing, food, medical care, and more. As the class began sponsoring a boy named Francis, they came up with a creative fundraising idea that would allow them to continue the sponsorship. Adrienne was a co-leader for the fundraiser, as the students held a city-wide event in Abilene, Texas called the Francis 5K, a community race designed to raise money for Francis.
Not only does Touch a Life seek to rescue children from forced labor, but they are heavily involved in rehabilitating the children once they are rescued. As a result of forced labor, many of these children have been neglected and abused. Poor living conditions and lack of medical care can lead to infections and disease, so Touch a Life offers medical and mental assessments to insure that all infections, diseases, and even mental disorders are addressed.
Adrienne and her classmates held the Francis 5K during their junior and senior year to continually support Francis as he was aided in rehabilitation by Touch a Life. Now 19 years old and a doTERRA Wellness Advocate, Adrienne still finds time to help the Touch a Life sponsor program. Since her sophomore year, Adrienne has helped to sponsor other kids in addition to Francis—still inspired and motivated by what she learned during her sophomore year project.
Adrienne says, "It warms my heart to know that there are people who are willing to sacrifice to save these kids. Being able to help in any way is a triumph for me." To see how you can support Touch a Life, visit their website for more information.
doTERRA Cares is an initiative through which doTERRA International recognizes and raises awareness for Wellness Advocates who contribute to worthy causes worldwide. doTERRA International is thrilled to share Adrienne's success and service and recognizes her as this week's doTERRA Cares highlight!
