Dubuque, Iowa Native Brings New Meaning to The Phrase 'Busy Work'; Patti Miller Is Named Mary Kay's 'Busiest Woman in America'

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from Mary Kay

DALLAS, April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- More than
25,000 women around the country took time out of their hectic schedules to
enter the Mary Kay "Busiest Woman in America" contest. Patti Miller, a
full-time optician and mother of three from Dubuque, Iowa, has been named the
 winner.
"Everyone I know is busy!" said Miller. "Getting this honor makes me feel
even more connected to women who juggle a long list of roles and
responsibilities. I'm proud to represent busy women everywhere and I thank
Mary Kay for giving all of us some recognition." In addition to working more
than 45 hours a week and volunteering in her community, Miller is devoted to
 her children, aged 15, 13 and 4.
The search for the "Busiest Woman in America" began last July, when Mary
Kay issued a nationwide call to women, from exhausted executives to
preoccupied parents. Through November 2000, Mary Kay's Independent Beauty
Consultants encouraged busy women to enter. Each candidate met with a beauty
consultant, answered a series of survey questions about personal time
management and submitted an anecdote chronicling the funniest thing they ever
did while rushing through a hectic day.
Patti's winning anecdote: "During the workday, a co-worker asked if I
would follow her to the auto repair shop. It was ten miles away. When we
arrived, we just started to scream and then laugh. She and I had driven all
the way over together and we had left her vehicle -- the one in need of
 repair -- behind!"
"There's no Academy Award for the most amazing performance by a busy
woman -- though there would be a lot of nominees," said Tom Whatley, Mary Kay
president of U.S. sales. "Mary Kay's mission is to enrich women's lives and
we created this contest to celebrate all busy women's accomplishments ... and
to recognize the challenges women face while they try to be so many things to
 so many people."
In addition to the "Busiest Woman in America" title, Miller will receive
her choice of an all-inclusive getaway to Spa Internationale at the Fisher
Island Club in Florida, $5,000 in maid services or $5,000 in gourmet chef
services, as well as 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles and a Movado
 watch.
The runners-up for the "Busiest Woman in America" title were Jennifer
Snyder from Batavia, OH, Ardenia Bradley from Memphis, TN, Phyllis Cook from
Pineville, WV and Phyllis Hogan from Baton Rouge, LA. They will each receive
50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles and a Movado watch.
The Mary Kay(R) product line includes more than 200 premium products in
eight categories: facial skin care, color cosmetics, nail care, body care, sun
protection, fragrances, men's skin care, and men's and women's dietary
