    ATLANTA, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EarthLink(R) (Nasdaq: ELNK),
today launched Virus Blocker(SM) -- the latest addition to EarthLink's suite
of protection features. This server-side, anti-virus tool will help prevent
subscribers from downloading Internet-borne viruses, worms and other malicious
code via email messages and attachments sent to their EarthLink email account.
EarthLink members can now enable Virus Blocker
 at https://myaccount.earthlink.net .
"EarthLink provides a unique and personal Internet experience that
eliminates many of the annoyances and dangers found on the Internet today,"
said Rob Kaiser, EarthLink's vice president of narrowband marketing. "Virus
Blocker helps to remove the threat of viruses corrupting a user's computer
when corresponding via email. Combined with Pop-Up Blocker, spamBlocker and
Spyware Blocker, EarthLink delivers the most powerful ISP-offered protection
 platform available to consumers today."
Virus Blocker's virus email scan is provided by Symantec Corp.
(Nasdaq: SYMC) and will not only identify infected email messages, but it will
also repair or delete these files. The feature also provides the user with
information regarding the type of infection found and from whom the email was
sent. Additionally, as the scanner resides on EarthLink's servers, the
solution sanitizes each user's email messages before they ever reach the
 customer's inbox.
According to the Symantec Internet Security Threat Report from October
2003, 64% of all new Internet attacks target vulnerabilities less than one
year old. Additionally, 66% of all attacks documented in the first half of
2003 utilized vulnerabilities categorized as highly severe. Further, the
Report documented 1,432 new vulnerabilities, a 12% increase over the number
found in the same period in the previous year. Such increases in virus and
worm infection highlight the need for consumers to utilize robust security
solutions to ensure safe computing standards.
Virus Blocker is free-of-charge and available to all EarthLink
subscribers. Customers can access the anti-virus program from their My
Account Web page for each of their active email accounts.
EarthLink's innovations that focus on customer tools and service have led
to number of industry awards in the Internet service category. PC Magazine
recently bestowed dual Reader's Choice awards to the company for both its
high-speed and dial-up services and EarthLink High Speed Internet has been
recognized by J.D. Power and Associates in its 2003 Internet Service Provider
